BANANA ISLAND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT 2007 marks one hundred and eighty seven years of the settlement of descendants of slaves on Banana Islands. The principle occupation of the islanders are farming and fishing. Banana could be a health resort of which much use can be made. It is believed when the epidemic of influenza raged in 1918 at the end of WW 1, it was only in Banana Island, so far as is known, that there were no deaths. Our project are: a Community Center, a museum and library of slavery, which is none existent in west Africa, to maintain a small health center, and primary school. Our major projects are the Community Center, the Museum and Library. On this 8 mile Island, one can still find a slave fort, cannons, grave yard of slave traders, a 17th century church and bell. Photos below, 2 buildings, approximately 3000 square feet each. Estimated construction cost on land that has already been donated for this project, is 1.5 million. |
